With fraud at an all-time high preventing it should be a priority for all charities. Join us for this interactive session to learn more about how to get the basics right.

David Carter, Chair, UK Charities Against Fraud Group (chair)
David is chair of the UK Charities Against Fraud Group which brings together charities and other not-for-profits with an active interest in sharing good fraud prevention practice. He is also head of global counter fraud at the British Council and an advisory committee member of the anti-fraud charity, Fraud Advisory Panel. He has worked within the charity sector for the past seven years and prior to that spent 14 years as a police officer.

Sophie Brown, Counter Fraud Senior, BDO LLP
Sophie is a counter fraud specialist at BDO and has over eight years’ experience providing both proactive and reactive fraud services for clients in the form of fraud risk management, fraud prevention, fraud training and investigations. Sophie has specialised all aspects of counter fraud within both public and private sectors, specialising in charities, the National Health Service and overseas aid. Sophie is an Accredited Counter Fraud Specialist (ACFS), Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE) and has a BSc Hons degree in Criminology.

Mark Jackson, Head of Counter Fraud, Christian Aid
Mark Jackson is an experienced ex-senior detective and Senior Investigating Officer within the Metropolitan Police Service. He has led a number of high profile and complex investigations and, as head of ‘E Crime’, was the MPS operational lead for fraud and cyber-crime.

Following his career with the MPS Mark became Head of Enforcement for the UK’s Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency where he led the UK’s response to criminal enforcement of pharmaceutical crime working across the UK, Europe and globally. More recently he has taken up a new role within the voluntary sector as the Head of Counter Fraud for Christian Aid global humanitarian programme with responsibilities involving corruption and bribery issues.

Internationally Mark works with the UK’s Foreign and Commonwealth Office as a deployable civilian expert on matters relating to serious and organised crime. This work has supported capacity building, training and coordinated global criminal enforcement.
